Common Questions From Customers:
Does this work well for lower back?
It does help relieve lower back pain quite well, what I do to better target it is use a small pillow to place under the mat ,it targets it very well and it is so relaxing, the pain slowly fades and you begin to feel better circulation through your lower back and legs, it's a very refreshing feeling :-)... I hope this helps you and I hope you enjoy it if you do purchase:-)
Can i sleep on it?
A recommended way to use the mat is in the evening before bed while you watch tv, read or meditate. This will provide great stress relief as well and prepare you for a relaxing night's sleep. However it is not actually recommended to sleep on the mat as you can scratch yourself on the plastic spikes during sleep if your body moves around.
Can I lay this on my bed or does it need to be on a floor?
Here are our recommendations from personal relief of back pain. If you are a beginner/intermediate user of the Acupressure Mat you can start off by using your mat on the couch or bed while watching tv at night. Using it this way provides a cushioning of sorts for your back and lets you get adjusted to using your mat. It also makes time fly by as you can watch tv from your bed or couch. I suggest using it this way for at least 25 minutes if you are a beginner or intermediate user.
Just place the mat down behind you and lay back against it slowly, spreading your bodyweight evenly on the mat. Now lay still and try not to move. The first 5 minutes may seem strange and feel weird but after the initial 5 minutes your back will feel warm. This is due to the increased blood flow to the area which also carries nutrients with it to aid in healing. If you use this daily in the evenings it should help you fall asleep faster and have a restful night's sleep. Make sure you are shirtless as the most effective way to achieve pain relief or the other benefits of this mat is for your skin to have direct contact with the acupressure spikes. You can also place the mat during the day standing up against the back support part of your computer chair and lean back against it shirtless. This is a very beginner position as this is the easiest way to use it while you browse the internet or read and write emails.
ADVANCED- If you are already used to your mat then you can use this advanced technique. Place the mat on the floor and lay on it shirtless for 45 minutes to an hour. The hard surface of the floor removes any cushioning and gives a very strong contact between the back and the mat with the force of gravity pushing you down onto the mat which is on a hard surface. This is an advanced technique but VERY effective. We want to wish you great success on your journey.
Is the cover washable? is it cotton? does it come with a carrying case?
yes it is cotton and washable. to wash... (1) The first step to cleaning the Mat is to carefully remove the foam padding from inside the mat. (2) The second step is to mix a small amount of soap with warm water and wash the Mat by hand. DO NOT place the Mat into a washer or dryer because doing so will damage it. Be careful when cleaning the spikes on the mat to protect your hands. (3) Once you are done rinsing the mat several times, let it hang dry until it is completely dry. Once it is completely dry, gently place the foam padding back inside.
How does it work as far as your body weight? i mean the heavier you are im sure the pain increases with the spikes ..just asking thanks
My wife is the one i got it for,she normally uses it sitting in a chair, but has used it laying on the hardwood floor which puts more pressure on you and it does not seem to be a problem. The little spikes you see are not that long and it does not hurt like one would think, yes it is uncomfortable at first until your body gets use to the feeling, but for her thats where the pain relief kicks in...hope this helps...and yes i do recommend it.
Do you have to be lying down? Has anyone used it in a recliner or adjustable bed? I can't lie flat easily.
I have used it two ways, One was laying down on it horizontally while in bed for about 1 hour. The 2nd way way to place it on my computer chair and sit back against it. The mat is very durable and not stiff so I do not think a recliner or adjustable bed will change anything as long as your back gets exposed as much as it can to most of the pressure points.
